2024 Total Eclipse

The Great North Woods is in the path of totality for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse!

We aim to be your resource for information, whether you are a resident, a business owner, or a visitor to the area on April 8, 2024.  If you are a local business or resident and you have resources that could be helpful, such as parking, public restrooms, or if you’re planning to hold an event, planning to be closed, or a member business selling items – let us know!  We will keep this information up to date and are here to connect resources so that our communities can prepare in the best way possible for this historic event.  We encourage all of the towns in our coverage area to feel free to direct people to this central information resource.

Let us know if you have an event to add and we can request it be added to NationalEclipse.com’s Events listing for you as well as our own Calendar of Events.  For advertising opportunities on NationalEclipse.com see this link.

Did you know you can help NASA map the shape of the sun during the Eclipse?  All you need is your smartphone and a free app, here’s how!

Here are some helpful tips that we’ll be adding to with detail on resources as we get closer to April 8:

Visitors:

  • Respect people’s property.
  • Arrive early.
  • Coos County is a rural area with limited infrastructure, please plan accordingly.
  • We have one electric vehicle charging station within a 1.5 hour radius.
  • For more tips, see this blog post on eclipse facts and how to prepare for your visit
  • Peruse MyGoNorth.com here for info on things to do in the area, dining, lodging, and more.

Residents:

  • Traffic may be more than we have ever experienced.  This will start on Friday, April 5 and we’re expecting Monday, April 8 to be the busiest.
  • Make sure you plan ahead to have any medications, groceries, heating fuel deliveries, and necessities like gas, toiletries, etc. on hand prior to the weekend of the eclipse.

Business Owners:

  • Businesses are invited to attend a business-specific informational session which will be hosted at the Tillotson Center in Colebrook on March 7th. There will be two sessions on the 7th, one at 10:30am and one at 5:30pm. Please RSVP to Heidi at the Colebrook Town Office as she is tracking attendance (603-237-4070 or 237-4142). The Chamber is not tracking RSVPs for this. The sessions will be hosted by Colebrook Town Manager, Tim Stevens and will likely have other State representatives in attendance.
  • Locals may try to stock up early, we recommend having a re-supply plan.
  • Have your groceries in stock; re-supply during the weekend may not be available due to traffic.
  • Restaurants will want to consider staffing, condensed menus, and supplies on hand.
  • Gas stations will also want to think of staffing constraints, supplies on hand, and making sure fuel deliveries are scheduled ahead of time.
