Dog-sledding has been unleashed! The Great North Woods is the perfect playground for those that love winter sports, and one of those winter activities includes dog-sledding! Snowfall typically makes its debut around October and lingers well into April (sometimes May).
We offer extensive activities for winter fun for the whole family, even the furry members! We have dog-sledding events in the wonderous winters in the North Country!
The Great North Woods Sled Dog Challenge is a unique format, called stage racing. A stage race is a series of shorter races that are hosted by a different community each day.
Additionally, “Meet the Mushers,” dinners will be held in each community the evening preceding the stage. This is a great way for members of the community to learn more about the sport and to talk with mushers about their dogs and experiences. For more information about the schedule of events and tickets to the dinners, please check www.nhstagerace.com.
The winter adventures don’t end at the sled! More than dog-sledding in the North Country
The North Country’s network of snowmobile trails also connects to trails in Vermont and Maine, allowing visitors to snowmobile for days at a time without riding the same trail twice. We boast of some of the best ice-fishing in the Northeast! The North country’s still waters like the Connecticut Lakes, pack in breathtaking winter scenery with the peaceful opportunities of a winter catch.
This winter wonderland attracts winter enthusiasts with deep snow that tops the United States average by 175+ inches annually. Get out there and have fun in the beautiful winter wonderland, then come inside and warm up by a cozy fire at any one of our lodging and dining options!
